Who is somatics or self-lymph massage class for?The classes are for anyone and everyone.But especially those who are currently in the midst of a mental or physical chronic or acute health journey.It’s also especially for those who have walked through a health journey in the past and know how important self-care, immune support, lymphatic support and stress release is.And, of course, it’s for anyone who wants to take care of their body and mind now so that they stay healthy. You can check with your doctor to determine if it’s right for you if you’d like.

How often should I participate in somatics classes?That is up to you. Repetition is key to learning a new way of being in your body, and being in a new nervous system state of rest and digest. So as often as you can and stay in your window of tolerance is best. But if you find that you work on it consistently on your own, and you just need maybe weekly accountability, or even monthly, then that’s great. If you find it helpful to have more accountability, or guidance, you can join every live session and/or follow along with the classes you can stream through the membership (or that you purchased for download).

What part of the body do we work on in self-lymph massage class?We address the entire body because the lymphatic system is throughout our entire body, and works together.We start with the trunk, and if you need to stop early, you will have done as much as you can, and it’s OK to stop and move on.

What type of somatics are the classes?I teach a conglomerate of techniques. It really is meant to be a live experiential class, where you get to be guided in a calm, loving time of self-care for your awesome body. Some weeks there is more of a focus on Hana somatics, where we spend time contracting and relaxing muscles slowly through normal patterns of movement, to bring awareness to tension patterns, and help your body relax it. Other weeks (more often overall) we spend more of the time using light touch, and gentle fascial movements, and skin stretches or resistance to calm the nervous system, and build resiliency. I love incorporating what I’ve learned from working with clients in my physical therapy practice in the past as well.

How long will it take to see improvements in chronic mental or physical symptoms?That depends on so many factors. I also lead mind renewal sessions each week, because our thoughts and how we are speaking and living outside of class times is so important too. But even with improving thoughts, words, etc, the nervous system takes different lengths of time to signal safety and be able to heal. If you are gently taking care of your body, you are doing a great job, and it will produce fruit.

What is somatics?Soma is the Greek word for body. Somatics is a broad term, but I approach it as being a practice of being present in your body, where your spirit and soul reside. Being in the here and now. And choosing to care for your body (self-care). Trauma can cause you to not be present in your body. Trauma isn’t a requirement for mental or physical illness, and it’s not our identity, or our focus.

I have limited mobility and function currently; can I still participate in somatics?Yes!I personally started somatics with very little function, and experiencing a whole host of symptoms.It helped me signal safety to my nervous system and start being in the present moment so I could catch my thoughts, redirect them, focus on praise, etc. Everything is modifiable, and you get to stay in your window of tolerance.

I have limited mobility and function currently, can I still participate in self-lymph massage class… How much movement is required?Yes, you can lay in bed and participate (you need to be able to see me so you can follow along).You need the ability to move your arms along your trunk at least.We do reach the whole body by the end of class, but you can participate in as much as you can. I used to do self-lymph massage on only my trunk, head and neck, and sometimes my arms, because that is what was available, and it was very beneficial.You can pause, or take breaks.We are using our hands to just move the skin.Its light work, and you can switch up your hands, or hand motions and positions to give your body a break from repetition.

Do I need to check with a doctor before coming to somatics or self-lymph massage class? (or any of the classes offered here?)If you have concerns or questions, feel free to do so. You are in charge of your body and your safety. Be kind to yourself and seek help when needed.

Are there any prerequisites for participating in drop-in somatics or self-lymph massage classes or monthly membership?No

Will I have access to previous recorded somatics or self-lymph massage classes if I join the monthly membership?Yes. You will have immediate access to unlimited streaming of at least 3 or more months of live recorded somatics classes, and there are also somatic visualization audios to listen to in the membership (if your membership includes somatics). If your membership includes self-lymph massage, there are also recorded live hour-long classes, as well as less than 5 minute and less than 20 minute follow along sessions.

Do I have to sit up for self-lymph massage class?No. You will want to be able to see the screen to follow along, but if you can do that laying down, self-lymph massage can be done in any position.

Do I need to be on camera? Or even have a camera or microphone?No. Camera is not required. Neither is a microphone. You need the ability to see and hear me. You can always write in the chat if I have a question of you, if you don’t have access to a microphone.

How long is class?Somatics class is about 45 minutes, and self-lymph massage is about an hour.

Are the somatics classes different every time?The classes are different each week, but the same all week, because repetition is very important in learning, and it helps you just relax and be really in tune with your body.

What do I wear to a somatics class?Wear something comfortable that you can move freely in. If possible, wear something without a lot of buttons or zippers as we often touch the fabric. Sometimes we need easy access to the skin on the stomach, or rib cage, or even upper thigh, so looser clothing is helpful, that you can reach under.

What do I wear for self-lymph massage class?Ideally self-lymph massage is done directly on the skin (you don’t need to be on camera). It’s recommended to wear either loose clothing you can reach under, or be under a blanket with less to no clothes. If you are more comfortable working over your clothes (which also works), then wearing something that doesn’t have buttons or zippers or a lot of seams works best.

Do I need a lot of space or anything special in the space for somatics class?Most things are modifiable to any position. It’s recommended to have a firm but comfortable spot to lay down and sit on. Also a spot to stand and move around a little. Most things take up only the space of your body sitting, standing, or lying down. You may want privacy so a calm, quiet space is recommended.

Are the self-lymph massage classes different every time?No. We go through the whole body each week. I say different words, and the timing may be different, but the body and the lymphatic system work in a very disciplined orderly manner, and we are just assisting that system along. Therefore, we follow in that disciplined, repetitive manner.
